Hawaii

January 17, 2012

So, our trip to Hawaii over the holidays was fantastic. It was such a treat to spend time with Mom and Dad and Judy and Barry and Peter and explore the big island. Here are just a few highlights:

Good times, happy people.

We went snorkeling with a sea turtle! Technically, it was not the turtle pictured here, but bravo to John for getting this picture. If you have a chance to visit the big island, Two Step is a great snorkeling spot.

This is Ma, of Ma’s Nic Nats & Kava Stop in Kealakekua. We spent the better part of an afternoon drinking kava, chatting and singing songs. She even gave me a quick ukulele lesson. We felt like we’d been welcomed into her family, it was delightful.

We went on a twelve-mile hike (with very few trail markers, yeesh) over a lava field, which was hot and windy and looks like Mordor (and sometimes smells like it, too). But it was worth it to see red hot lava falling into the ocean.

Q: What’s better than a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow?

A: John at the end of a rainbow!

These last two are just here to be pretty.
